Call For Artists!

You can join in the fun as an artist, creating a work of art that will entertain, educate, excite, and otherwise engage visitors to Glastonbury. Your Glastonbury Apple, sponsored by a local business, will be on display through the summer of 2007. Any artist can apply, so why not you?

The process is simple:

  • First, register as an artist here online. Anyone can register. There's no deadline in the sense of a special date after which we will no longer accept submissions, but Sponsors are ALREADY choosing artists, and we expect all of the sponsors to have chosen by May 1st so that their apples will be completed in time for the unveiling ceremony.

  • Second, design your Glastonbury Apple. You can use paint, collage, assemblage, audio/video components... whatever makes your Glastonbury Apple unique, and you can modify the form by any method you wish, even add new sculptural elements, fabrics, objects, mosaics. Get the idea? Just plan on making it weatherproof and tough enough to stand up to a summer's attention by enthusiastic families.

  • You can scan your design and upload it online or mail it into our offices.

  • Third, our artistic committee will review the designs for appropriateness and present your designs to potential sponsors.

  • Next, if the sponsor likes your design, you can be chosen to turn your design into a magnificent sculpture. We will notify you, tell you where to pick up your 4-foot fiberglass apple and give you instructions on painting requirements.

  • You'll create your masterpiece and bring it to the unveiling in May. You'll be paid $500 for your work.

  • Through the summer, you'll have extra contact with your apple -- touching it up if it needs it and optional events like attending artistic merit awards and meet-the-artist days.

  • Then just before the auction, we want you to touch up the apple one last time to get it ready to be auctioned off for charity. Hope for a high auction price, because you'll get 10% of your apple's proceeds.

Your benefits?

  • An honorarium of $500 and 10% of the auction price.

  • Inclusion in various promotional materials. All images used will include the name of the artist wherever practical.

  • A full color book featuring all of the Glastonbury Apples will be published and each artist will receive a complimentary copy.

Who owns the Glastonbury Apples when you're done? The completed apples become the property of The Glastonbury Apple Trail project upon delivery for installation. Rights to publish photographs or otherwise use the image are at the sole discretion of The Glastonbury Apple Trail organizers.
